Mid year review

As we bid farewell to the first half of 2023, let’s reflect on an eventful period filled with exciting developments in the start-up world. The year kicked off with a resounding boom as startups raised a staggering €11 billion in January, signaling a promising start. While February experienced a slight dip with €4.8 billion raised, the tide turned once again in March, witnessing a remarkable surge to €9.5 billion in start-up funding. The subsequent months, from April through June, showcased consistent growth with €3.9 billion raised in both April and May, and a still-impressive €3.4 billion in June.

According to data analysed from the Skopai platform, 145 start-ups received funding worldwide in June 2023.

Thematic clusters

The word cloud represents the markets and technologies of start-ups that received funding in June. Tags such as Platform (representing 23% of start-ups), Fintech (222%), Software (21%), AI (18%) dominate the landscape, giving us insight into which markets saw a lot of activities. 

Maturity

By their maturity, most start-ups, representing 50% are on the Go-to-market stage. Matured stages and Early-stage ventures follow with 23% and 22% respectively. The analysis shows that companies across the various stages are diverse in their offerings and operate in different markets although AI and software solutions are more dominant. To add, 61 funded start-ups have patents.

Mycelium Foundry designs fully formed structures that perform just like or better than plastic, leather, meat, and more, turning to compost at the end of their life to meet demand without the environmental costs.
